Cosmo/Política #2– Conflito e Unidade, Museu do Neo-Realismo, Vila Franca de Xira
Part of the cycle COSMO / POLITICA at the Museum of Neo-Realism, the exhibition Conflict and Unity presents original works by João Ferro Martins, Mafalda Santos and Susana Gaudêncio, curated by Sandra Vieira Jürgens and Paula Loura Batista
Following the cycle’s goals – the establishment of a dialogue with the neorealist legacy -, this second exhibition had as its starting point the conference “Conflict and Unity of Contemporary Art” ( 1957) by Mário Dionísio, where he presents the fundamental questions about art and modern aesthetic creation, about what is characterized as a false antagonism between abstraction and realism, or form and content, and about the conflict between art and the public.
Artists João Ferro Martins, Mafalda Santos and Susana Gaudêncio continue this debate, reflecting on the social function of art, the actuality of the notion of “useful art” and the embracing of contemporary art.
The opening featured an improvised music concert, as part of a project by André Tasso, Bruno Humberto and João Ferro Martins.
