Ambiente de Trabalho (Work Environment) 2005

In a first reading of the drawing, we quickly recognize the names of institutions that identify the Portuguese art world, and the title of the piece shows us the moment when this was mapped out. As if on a computer screen, a series of file icons are named according to their contents. Here, each file refers to  certain exhibition, museum or gallery, linking to documents that correspond to artists, curators, art critics. Ambiente de Trabalho (Work Environment/Desktop) represents a diagram of the organization and connectivity between agents and institutions, but more than a map, it is also an archive that allows us to understand the structure and inter-relationships of a given environment at a certain moment in time. Now, let’s think about the “update” of this work environment.
